PARENTAL GUIDANCE FOR CHILD CARE AFTER VACCINATION

PARENTAL GUIDANCE FOR CHILD CARE AFTER VACCINATION

15/05/2023

Vaccination is one of the most proactive, effective and practical preventive measures against pathogens that are dangerous to children’s health. However, some children may have side effects after vaccination making them feel uncomfortable and fatigue. So, what could parents do to take care of their children after vaccination, alleviate the symptoms of side effects and ensure the safety of children's health? Let's find out with the American International Hospital (AIH)!

► Post-vaccination, children may suffer some common reactions such as:

  • Pain, redness and swelling at the injection site for 1-2 days.
  • Mild fever, which is not lasting more than 48 hours
  • Discomfort, cry or sleepy.

► At this moment, parents can:

  • Give your child airy dress.
  • Maintain daily nutrition, increase breastfeeding and drink more water.
  • Common antipyretics (paracetamol) can be administered in a suitable weight-based dose when your child has fever > 38.5 degrees Celsius, irritate.
  • If the injection site is swelling, red. Cold compresses can help to reduce pain and swelling.
  • When carrying a child, avoid touching on the injection, do not apply the medicated oil, hot compress or anything on the injection site as it can cause infection.
  • Do not take aspirin, other cough medicines and antipyretics as these products can increase the dose of paracetamol in children.

► When to see a doctor?

When children are allergic to certain vaccines, parents will notice signs of instability that occur quickly within minutes or hours after vaccination. Some abnormalities will manifest in children such as mood or behavior alteration, high fever or asthenia such as:

  • Dyspnea, wheeze
  • Hoarseness
  • Cyanosis
  • Tachycardia
  • Dizziness
  • Facial edema
  • Fever above 40-degrees Celsius
  • Convulsion
  • Children cry uncontrollably for 3 hours or longer.

In extremely rare cases, some vaccines can cause coma or convulsion in children... In fact, doctors are trying to figure out whether these and other serious side effects are caused by the vaccines or other reasons.

Post-vaccination childcare is crucial to help children feel better, while helping parents detect abnormal signs, thereby providing timely management.

Why should parents choose to vaccinate their children at the American International Hospital (AIH)?

  • During each vaccination session, children will be examined and assessed their health condition before vaccination by doctors.
  • Post-vaccination care and monitoring will be given. At the same time, parents will be instructed by doctors about post-vaccination care at home for the best child protection.
  • Parents will be reminded to vaccination schedule so as not to miss any children’s shot.
  • In particular, there is an emergency room at the vaccination area, ready to respond in time to possible incidents.
  • We are committed to the use of high quality vaccines with obvious origin and ensuring the safety procedures in vaccine preservation and administration when vaccinating.
  • Do not miss important shots during the first immature months of your child’s life so that he/she is optimally protected. Give your children a full and prompt vaccination according to doctor's recommendations in order to achieve the best effect!
