THE PATIENT IS FREE OF PAIN, RECOVERING AFTER 24 HOURS OF TOTAL ARTHROPLASTY DUE TO FEMORAL HEAD NECROSIS
For a long time suffering from hip pain after each step, Mr. N.V.H (63 years old, HCMC) has studied and visited many medical facilities, used many drugs but did not improve. Recently, when the pain level was gradually increasing, the pain persisted even when he was resting, causing difficulties in daily activities, Mr. N.V.H visited the Trauma & Orthopedic Department - American International Hospital (AIH).
During the examination and X-ray imaging, Mr. N.V.H was diagnosed by the doctor with necrosis of the right femoral head accompanied by deformation of the right hip joint. On July 5, 2024, after reviewing the results of the patient's tests and ensuring preoperative health conditions were met, the doctors at American International Hospital (AIH) successfully performed a total right hip replacement surgery for Mr. N.V.H. After the surgery, the patient experienced minimal pain, the incision was dry, and both lower limbs were measured to be equal in length. Mr. N.V.H. continued to receive prophylactic antibiotic treatment combined with physical therapy exercises right at the hospital. 05 days after the surgery, the patient was discharged when all movements of the hip joint were comfortable, with no sensation of pain remaining.
Talking about his decision to receive treatment at American International Hospital (AIH), Mr. N.V.H shared: “I was naturally impressed with AIH because of the comfortable space, friendly and attentive staff when my mother was hospitalized here four years ago. My trust increased even more when I learned that AIH has a partnership with Raffles Hospital in Singapore. After visiting here, I was consulted by Dr. Nguyen Viet Thinh very clearly and thoroughly about the treatment method, which made me feel more assured about choosing surgery at AIH. As a patient who is extremely timid and afraid of pain, I found that after the joint replacement surgery, the pain was not as terrible as I had imagined, the surgery took place on Saturday and by Sunday, I no longer felt any pain. The nursing staff and physiotherapy technicians were very enthusiastic and ready to support me at all times. I am very satisfied!”
1st degree orthopedist, Dr. Nguyen Viet Thinh - Deputy Head of General Surgery Department - American International Hospital (AIH), the attending physician for N.V.H patients, said: "Femoral head necrosis is a pathological condition that causes deformation and resorption of the femoral head due to insufficient blood supply to the bone tissue. The disease accounts for about 10% of all cases of prosthetic hip replacement. The goal of hip replacement is to help patients escape from pain, and regain mobility and walking ability as soon as possible. Because prolonged hip pain will seriously impair the patient's health such as increased cardiovascular risk due to insomnia; complications of stomach ulcers from long-term medication use.”
Total hip replacement surgery is a complex technique that requires the surgeon to have a high level of expertise, along with equipment that meets standards and appropriate joint replacement materials. At American International Hospital (AIH) Trauma & Orthopedic Department, during consultation and treatment, doctors will apply the latest methods, techniques and treatment regimens according to international standards. Most importantly, the orthopedists will coordinate with the rehabilitation physiotherapists to develop a treatment plan and design individualized exercises for each patient based on an assessment of various factors: the severity of the condition, occupation, sports habits, other health issues of the patient, and appropriate training duration for the patient.
In addition, AIH is equipped with many modern apparatuses and equipments to assist in pain relief, shorten recovery time, and provide an ideal treatment space that best supports patients in participating in exercise and returning to normal movement as soon as possible.
